1920 Census Horace B. Clemansby Daniel Carey:
Horace Byron Clemans was born in Vermont. His family later moved temporarily to McHenry County, IL while his older sister's husband and a friend went on ahead into Wisconsin to find a place to settle. The next year the family moved to Vinland, near Oshkosh, in Winnebago County, WI. He grew up there and fought in the Civil War with the 21st WI Infantry. After the war he moved to Tama County, IA for a while then moved on to Osceola County, and lived several places there. In 1889 he heard that milk was selling for good prices in Washington Territory and he bought several cows and headed out. His family followed that summer. The family lived several places near Seattle, finally settling down in Foster, of what is now Tukwilla. This is based on newspaper articles from WI, recollections of his daughters, and information from his Civil War pension file.
