Geography:

In 1902 it was part of the Polish Provinces of the Russian Empire.

History:
The first Polish state was established in the 10th century by the Piast dynasty rulers from Polanie (Field People) tribe. Mieszko (Misico) I ruled since 960. In 966 Poles were converted to Christianity. In 968 Mission Bishopries were founded (Gniezno, Poznan). St Adalbert's and Bruno's missions were esp. supported. Boleslaw the Brave expanded Polish power. He worked well with German emperor Otton III whom he hosted at Gniezno where they both met at so called Gnesen gathering in 1000 AD and where archbishopry seat was established. After Boleslaw the Brave died country got weakened and sarted to fall into petty states. International prestige was given to Poland during the reign of Boleslaw the Wrymouth [1107 - 1138]. In 1138 - 1306 Poland got divided into petty dukedoms. The German Teutonic Knights settled at Chelmno lands who later formed in the conquered Prussian provinces strong and Poland hostile state. After a period of political unrest Wladyslaw I the Short reunited the kingdom in 1320.From 1138 - 1306 Anjou ruled Poland and since 1386 when Queen Jadwiga married Wladyslaw II Jagiello, the grand duke of Lithuania, uniting two powerful states the Jagiellon Dynasty had ruled. From 1573 to 1795 Polish kings were elected by so called nobility free election representatives. Last Poland's king Stanislaw August was forced to abdicate after the third partition of Poland carried out by Prussia,Russia and Austria. After 123 years Poland was granted independence in 1918. The First head of state and commander of the Polish army in 1918 was Józef Pilsudski. 1 September 1939 Germans invaded Poland starting World War II, joined on 17 September 1939 by the Soviet Union. Despite the battles and campaign lost Polish government never signed an act of capitulation with any of the agressors. In 1945 - 1989 The People's Republic of Poland was the Soviet controlled satellite state.

Maria Josephine Doberstein

also known as Mary Josephine Dobertsein.

Note from Clara Hansen Nelson, daughter of Philippine Doberstein also called Lena, says that Mary or Maria Doberstein married John Bucholz in Josephow, Germany and John who already had five children from a previous marriage and his wife had died then met and married Maria and John and Maria or Mary had 10 children of their own.

Death: Transportation of Corpse, Canadian National Railway, City of Winnepeg, Manitoba Providence, to remove for burial at Moosehour in Manitoba. Died at Winnepeg, 4 Dec 1944, Age 69. Maria Bucholz.

Philippine Jacobine or Lena Doberstein

One German note say 19 Apr 1884 as birth, and christsening as 20 Apr in Josephow, Russia, with parent os Philippine Doberstein being Martin Doberstein and Emliene Schatschneider, yet she celebrated her birth on May 1st.
